A Mid-Norfolk round tower church has launched a £20,000 appeal to replace its heating and lighting.
Electric lighting was installed in St Margaret’s, Worthing, near Dereham, in 1929. Now, it needs replacing, said churchwarden Celia Daniel.
A number of fund-raising events will be taking place – including a Halloween afternoon tea on Saturday, October 29 – and then in late November, a wine and beer tasting event.
More than 10 years ago, the church upgraded its electricity switchboards but now the associated lighting and heating circuitry must be replaced as a matter of urgency.
St Margaret’s was also one of the first churches to install an automatic door opening and locking system, which has enabled many more visitors to appreciate this gem.
It also has plans to build a small extension on the north side of the church to improve catering and provide a toilet but this has been put on hold until the electrical work can be carried out.
The church has a lively programme of fundraising events in the coming weeks and months.
Saturday, October 29 – 2pm to 4pm, Halloween tea.
Saturday, November 26 – Wine and beer tasting from 3pm. Free admission but donations welcome. Also, there is a Christmas wreath and festive table decorations demonstration.
