A double ring of Norfolk bells
Early risers may well have heard the bells of two Norfolk churches on BBC Radio 4 in September and early October.
St Peter, Mancroft, has one of the oldest historic ringing towers in the country was featured on “Bells on Sunday” broadcast on Radio 4 at 5.44am on September 26.
The first ever recorded peal was rung in 1715 and the tower has 14 bells. A new peal of 12 was cast in 1775 which replaced the earlier ten, which are still in use today.
And on Sunday, October 3, the bells of St Andrew’s, Holt, were also broadcast on the BBC’s “Bells on Sunday.
