Two Christmas gift ideas are proving surprisingly popular

Two Christmas gifts are proving a popular choice, according to membership secretary Nick Wiggin.

He has received a number of inquiries for annual membership as a surprise Christmas present. Individual membership costs a minimum £20pa (£30 joint) and recipients will also receive, if they choose, the e-edition of the Society’s quarterly journal or newsletter, The Round Tower.

On Christmas Day, the latest e-edition will be dropping into their festive mailboxes. There’s still plenty of time for some last-minute shopping because all the arrangements, including payment etc, can be completed online before December 25.

The latest revised handy guide, East Anglian Round Tower Churches, is also a popular choice, said Mr Wiggin. Originally published by the Society’s founder, Bill Goode, in the 1980s, it was most recently and subsequently, extensively revised and expanded by the respected architect, Stephen Hart, in 2010.

Now, extended to 28 pages, it lists all 184 round tower churches in England – 124 in Norfolk, 38 in Suffolk, seven in Essex, two in Cambridgeshire, three in Sussex and two in Berkshire. As well as an improved map, the Postcode locations are also included.

The golden jubilee edition, East Anglian Round Tower Churches, by Stephen Hart, was re-published this autumn. Copies cost £4 (including postage) from nickwiggin@hotmail.com. Please pay £4 to the Society’s bank (Sort code 53 81 16, Account number 04331915 (yourname/booklet).

Alternatively, copies can be ordered by writing to Nick Wiggin, Fir Tree Cottage, Witnesham, Ipswich, Suffolk IP6 9EX, enclosing a cheque for £4 (to include postage). Make cheques payable to the Round Tower Churches Society. Postal delivery cannot be guaranteed before this Christmas.

Sales of the Golden Jubilee edition have been strong with receipts (including donations) exceeding £450 in the past few weeks.

In addition, copies are available at the City Bookshop, Davey Place, Norwich, price £5.
